Smithsonian Zoo in Washington D.C.

While we were in DC visiting our aunt and uncle's house, we went to the Smithonian Zoo there, one of our cousin Olivia's favorite places.

Here's the biggest bird Bubble's has ever seen!

When we stood watching the crane with Bubbles, it strutted up to the gate so we could see it better. I know it did it for the attention, I just know it!

This emu also came up to the gate, but Ms. Laurie said its because one of its main food is small mammals, as in, Bubbles and Olivia!

Now here's a weird looking bird! It did some territorial dance around its cage, yeah, it was weirder than weird. Doesn't it look prehistoric??

Here is my favorite animl, the river otter!! There were two playing around in the grass and water and making the most of the whole cage. They were so cute!

One of my favorite parts of the Zoo was the Asian trail. After seeing an episode of Planet Earth about China, I fell in love with the animals from that country. Pandas, musk deer (deer with saber teeth, so awesome!) and clouded leopard (in the picture) were my favorites. I wish they had some musk deer at the Zoo :(

They did have a Panda though! She was the main attraction and its good we went when we did. They are going to ship her back to China in a few weeks along with her baby which was born at this Zoo. I think its mean to the panda for shipping her twice! I'm sure it upsets them to travel!

This was one of Bubbles favorites, she even got a stuffed animal of it. Although, the only reason she got one of this Norweigen Horse is because what she really wanted, a zebra, wasn't there. They had live zebras but no stuffed animals? What kind of zoo is this?

This black squirrel is something very special. It is not part of the attrations but they only live in this part of the US.



This was Bubbles absolute favorite!! Probably because its the only animal that did anything exciting. It jumped into the pool making a huge splash and whirlpool then swam up to the edge and made a huge roaring sound, almost like a lion. The man working in the elephant's cage next door said that sometimes the hippo will splash water half way across the room (and the room was humongous) but we waited and waited but he didn't do it :(
